Personal experience
I think I have commented in some post before I am imparting particular classes to a 8 year old boy, who is in 3rd of Primary in a bilingual school. My main aim is to help him with homework, but, unfortunately with this pandemic situation he usually have no homework at all. So I take advantage of the free time to try some dynamics and differente methods with him to practise myself and to give them some basic tools so he can be able to communicate and no only learn what the curriculum imposes.
The point is that today I have tried an activity one of my classmates's group (I can not remember which one) proposed in the last week presentations. I have noticed that my student wasn't able to identify the parts of the body with their name, he was really confused. So I kept in mind the idea of my classmates of creating a domino, and I made one by myself with the principal body parts:
To enrich the acquiring of the vocabulary, before beggining the game, we said out loud every word to practise the correct pronunciation and, at the same time, we touch the part of the body it corresponds. In this way I assured myself he would connect the word said with the meaning (in a real context, by physically touching it). Later we translate the word to Spanish so he can make more connections. Once, this was done, we started platying.
He enjoyed that much, that we spent over 30 minutes playing! He was having so much fun, maybe he thought it was only a game, that we were not learning, but the truth is that I left the house with him so happy and with a lot of vocabulary acquired in his mind. He finished the lesson saying all the words with a perfect pronunciation and with not doubt of which part of the body every word was.
I am fully proud of him and of myself, I couldn't imagine how practical, didactic and fun would this activity be. I needed to share this here.
I LOVE BEING A TEACHER!
And I love more that it really helps people. I am so happy right now!
